What is Neo?

Neo describes itself as a “rapidly growing and developing” ecosystem which has the aim of becoming the foundation for the next generation of the internet. They aim to build a new economy in which digitized payments, identities and assets come together.
It was originally known as Antshares. In addition, the project was also believed to be China’s first public blockchain at the time of its launch in February 2014. The open-source platform was later rebranded to Neo, which is what it is known as now, three years later.

The team aims to build a worldwide community of developers who build new infrastructure for the network and reduce obstacles to entry. In addition to this, the team behind this also want the project to operate an EcoBoost initiative that is built in a way to encourage people to develop decentralized apps and smart contracts on Neo’s blockchain.

A unique feature of the Neo blockchain is the projects continuous development. This helps to ensure that the project is futureproofed and able to cope with any rapid increases in demand.

Team

Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang are the co-founders of Neo, and its forerunner, Antshares. They both operate as the chairmen of the Neo Foundation. This organisation intends to promote the blockchain’s adoption.

Da Hongfei has stated that, the internet is a great invention, but it is still flawed. This means that ordinary consumers may not always have jurisdiction over their own data. He believes blockchain applications will eventually go mainstream.

Erik Zhang authored the Delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance algorithm. This algorithm intends to prevent dishonest participants from being involved in the blockchain’s operation. This technology was subsequently used in the Neo blockchain. He continues to lead the Neo 3.0, which is the projects next iteration, as a core developer.

Roadmap

In a NEO blog entry the NEO core development group discussed the advancement of Oracle's usage and usefulness, the new plans for content storing in NeoFS and the development in the Neo Gui interface. Although the group didn't uncover many advances, the post expresses that they are working at the innovation and that all ensuing testing will be finished with Electron.

In addition to this, they have had a crucial advancement in the codification of Oracle’s functionality. This extra functionality will enable a fresh URL scheme to be included so that content in NeoFS will be able to be be accessed through the use of the Oracle API.

The NEO core team aims to complete all tests and updates with a high level of transparency. Therefore, they are gradually shifting to use the GitHub Actions. The list below includes additional priorities for the NEO core team for 2020.

•    Keep the discussion going and design of the Neo3 governance model.
•    Keep on developing the Oracles consensus mechanism incorporated for Neo3.
•    Examine the parallel verification of signatures
•    Develop the portability of RPC modules, the creation of GraphQL and Restful plugins.
•    Fnalize the development of the Neo-Celer SDK
•    Finish the design details of the Neo3-GUI front-end development framework.
•    Keep On testing ecosystem wallets.
